Reissert compounds
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013492
Compounds formed by adding an acyl group to the ring nitrogen and a cyano group to the adjacent carbon of quinoline, isoquinoline and related nitrogen heterocycles, as in 1-acyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline-2-carbonitriles. They are made by treating the heterocycle with an acid chloride and a cyanide source. Acid hydrolysis of the quinoline adduct gives quinaldic acid together with the aldehyde corresponding to the acyl group.
