Nucleotides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008146

The fundamental building blocks of nucleic acids, consisting of a nitrogenous base, a five-carbon sugar (ribose or deoxyribose), and one or more phosphate groups. These molecules link together via phosphodiester bonds to form polynucleotide chains like DNA and RNA. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a common nucleotide that serves as the primary energy currency of the cell.
