Exogenous
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004212
Originating from outside an organism, system, or cell. In toxicology, it describes a substance, such as a drug or environmental pollutant, that is introduced into the body rather than being produced internally through metabolic processes. This contrasts with endogenous substances, like hormones or neurotransmitters, which are synthesized within the organism itself.
