Metabolic enzymes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007236
A group of proteins that catalyze the biochemical transformations of endogenous substances and xenobiotics within an organism. These transformations, collectively known as metabolism, include processes like detoxification and the conversion of compounds into forms that can be used for energy or excreted. The cytochrome P450 superfamily is a major class of metabolic enzymes responsible for the phase I metabolism of many drugs and toxins.
