Procarcinogen

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009490

A chemical substance that is not carcinogenic in its original form but is converted into an active carcinogen through metabolic processes within the body. These metabolic transformations, often mediated by enzymes, can produce reactive intermediates that damage DNA. Many environmental carcinogens are procarcinogens requiring bioactivation.
