Deoxyribonucleic acid repair

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003016

A collection of processes by which a cell identifies and corrects damage to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules that encode its genome. These processes are continuously active in cells, protecting the genome from damage caused by metabolic byproducts, environmental agents, and replication errors. Defects in DNA repair mechanisms can lead to an increased risk of cancer and other diseases.
