Damage to deoxyribonucleic acid
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002853
Any alteration to the chemical structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that can impair its function or replication. This can include single- or double-strand breaks, base modifications, cross-links, or adduct formation. DNA damage can arise from endogenous processes like oxidative stress or from exogenous agents such as radiation, genotoxic chemicals, or certain viruses.
