Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004846

The complete set of genetic material present in an organism or cell, encompassing all its deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or, for some viruses, ribonucleic acid (RNA). This includes all genes, non-coding sequences, and mitochondrial or chloroplast DNA. The human genome, for example, consists of approximately 3 billion base pairs distributed across 23 pairs of chromosomes.
