DNA probe

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003365

A single-stranded segment of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) that is labeled with a detectable marker, such as a fluorescent dye or a radioactive isotope. This probe is used to detect the presence of complementary nucleic acid sequences in a sample through hybridization. DNA probes are widely used in molecular biology for genetic testing, disease diagnosis, and forensic analysis.
