Fluorescent in situ hybridization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004527

A cytogenetic technique that employs fluorescently labeled DNA probes to detect and localize specific DNA or RNA sequences within cells or tissues. This method allows for the visualization of chromosomal abnormalities, gene mapping, and the identification of specific microorganisms. The probes bind to complementary nucleic acid sequences, making them visible under a fluorescence microscope.
