Peptide nucleic acid
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008608
A synthetic polymer that mimics the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) but with a backbone composed of repeating N-(2-aminoethyl)glycine units linked by peptide bonds, rather than phosphodiester bonds. This structural difference allows it to bind to complementary DNA or RNA strands with high affinity and specificity. It is often used in molecular biology for hybridization assays and antisense therapies.
