Peptide mass fingerprinting
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008607
A protein identification technique where a protein is first digested into smaller peptides using a specific protease, such as trypsin. The resulting peptide mixture is then analyzed by mass spectrometry to generate a list of peptide masses. This 'fingerprint' is compared against theoretical peptide mass lists from protein databases to identify the original protein.
