Southern blot
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011065
A molecular biology technique used to detect specific DNA sequences in DNA samples. DNA fragments, separated by gel electrophoresis, are transferred to a membrane and then hybridized with a labeled probe complementary to the target sequence. This method is named after its inventor, Edwin Southern, and is used for genetic mapping, forensic analysis, and disease diagnosis.
