Transposon
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012267
A segment of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that can move from one location to another within a genome, often referred to as a 'jumping gene.' These mobile genetic elements can insert themselves into different genes, potentially causing mutations or altering gene expression. Transposons are found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
