Transgene

A gene or genetic material that has been transferred from one organism to another, or from one location to another within the same organism, using genetic engineering techniques. This introduced genetic material becomes stably integrated into the recipient organism's genome and is heritable. Transgenes are commonly used in research to study gene function or to confer new traits in genetically modified organisms.
