Knock-out
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006372
A genetic manipulation technique that inactivates or deletes a specific gene in an organism, resulting in the absence of its functional protein product. This is achieved through homologous recombination or CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, creating a stable, heritable genetic alteration. The resulting organism, a knock-out organism, is used to study gene function and disease mechanisms.
