Gene product
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004812
The biochemical material, either an RNA or a protein molecule, resulting from the expression of a gene. Its creation follows the central dogma of molecular biology, where a gene's DNA sequence is transcribed into RNA, which for many genes is then translated into a protein. The quantity and function of these products dictate the observable traits of an organism and are often altered by toxic substances.
