Regulator gene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010123
A gene that codes for a protein or ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecule that controls the expression of other genes. These regulatory proteins, such as repressors or activators, bind to specific DNA sequences to either inhibit or promote transcription. The lac operon in bacteria is a classic example involving a regulator gene.
