Promoter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009537
A region of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that initiates transcription of a particular gene. It serves as a binding site for ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase and other transcription factors, dictating the start point and rate of gene expression. Promoters are typically located upstream of the gene they regulate.
