Expression
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004252
The process by which information from a gene is used in the synthesis of a functional gene product, such as a protein or a functional RNA molecule. This involves transcription of DNA into RNA and, for proteins, subsequent translation of messenger RNA. Gene expression is tightly regulated to control cellular functions.
