Reverse transcriptases

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010318

A class of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) polymerases that catalyze the synthesis of DNA from an RNA template. These enzymes are found in retroviruses and some eukaryotic cells, playing a key role in viral replication and gene expression. The product of this reaction is complementary DNA (cDNA), which can then be used for gene cloning or expression studies.
