Mutation rate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007711

The frequency at which new mutations occur in a gene or a genome per unit of time or per cell division. It quantifies the likelihood of a genetic alteration arising in an organism's DNA. This rate varies significantly among different organisms and genomic regions, typically expressed as mutations per base pair per generation.
