Knockout mutation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006375
A genetic alteration that results in the complete inactivation or deletion of a specific gene, preventing the production of its functional protein product. This type of mutation is often intentionally introduced in laboratory organisms to study gene function. It leads to a loss-of-function phenotype for the affected gene.
