Dominant lethal mutation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003378

A genetic alteration in a germ cell that, when transmitted to the zygote, results in the death of the embryo or fetus. This type of mutation is dominant because only one copy of the mutated gene is sufficient to cause the lethal effect. It is often used in toxicology studies to assess the mutagenic potential of chemicals.
