Human Genome Project

An international research program that ran from 1990 to 2003 and set out to read the full sequence of base pairs in human DNA and to locate the genes within it. Its first draft was announced in 2000, and the finished reference sequence, covering about 3 billion base pairs, was declared complete in April 2003.
