Complementary sequence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002318
A nucleic acid sequence that can form base pairs with another sequence due to specific hydrogen bonding between adenine and thymine (or uracil), and guanine and cytosine. This pairing is antiparallel, meaning one strand runs in the 5' to 3' direction while its complement runs 3' to 5'. For example, the complementary sequence to 5'-ATGC-3' is 3'-TACG-5'.
