Base pairing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012917
The specific association between two complementary nitrogenous bases in nucleic acids, primarily adenine with thymine (or uracil) and guanine with cytosine. This interaction is mediated by hydrogen bonds, forming the rungs of the DNA double helix or specific structures in RNA. The stability of these pairs is influenced by factors such as temperature and ionic strength.
