Nucleobase lesion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008132
A chemical modification or damage to one of the nucleobases (adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine, or uracil) within a nucleic acid molecule. These alterations can arise from exposure to mutagens, radiation, or errors during replication, potentially leading to mispairing during DNA synthesis. Common examples include pyrimidine dimers induced by ultraviolet light or oxidative damage.
