Microsatellite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007354
Short tandem repeat sequences of DNA, typically 2-6 base pairs long, that are highly polymorphic and widely distributed throughout the genome. These repetitive sequences are used as genetic markers in paternity testing, forensic analysis, and studies of genetic linkage. The number of repeats at a given locus can vary significantly between individuals.
