microRNA
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007353
A class of small, non-coding ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecules that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. These single-stranded RNA molecules bind to complementary sequences on messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules, which leads to the degradation of the mRNA or the inhibition of its translation into protein. A typical microRNA is approximately 22 nucleotides in length and is involved in controlling cellular processes like development, differentiation, and apoptosis.
