Intron

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006043

A non-coding sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) within a gene that is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA) but is subsequently removed by splicing before translation into a protein. Introns are found in the genes of most eukaryotes and some prokaryotes. The remaining coding sequences, called exons, are then joined together to form the mature mRNA.
