Differential splicing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003175
A molecular process where a single gene can give rise to multiple messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts and, consequently, different protein isoforms. This occurs by selectively including or excluding certain exons during the splicing of pre-mRNA. Differential splicing significantly expands the protein diversity encoded by the genome.
