Differential spectrum

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003174

A spectrum obtained by mathematically differentiating a direct spectrum with respect to a variable such as energy or wavelength. This process transforms peaks into bipolar features and can highlight subtle spectral details, resolve overlapping peaks, and remove broad background signals. In Auger electron spectroscopy, spectra are conventionally displayed in the differential mode, dN(E)/dE, where N(E) is the number of electrons at a given kinetic energy E.
