Auger electron spectrum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000948
A plot of the number of emitted Auger electrons as a function of their kinetic energy. The spectrum is generated by irradiating a sample surface with a primary beam of electrons or X-rays, which causes atoms to emit electrons with energies characteristic of the element. To better resolve the Auger peaks from the large, sloping background of secondary electrons, the spectrum is often presented in a differential mode, plotting the derivative of the electron energy distribution with respect to energy.
