Secondary radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010626
Radiation emitted by an irradiated material as a result of the interaction of primary radiation with the atoms of that material. This phenomenon occurs when incident radiation, such as X-rays or gamma rays, causes the ejection of electrons or the excitation of atoms, leading to the emission of new photons or particles. Examples include characteristic X-rays and Auger electrons produced during X-ray fluorescence.
