Auger electron
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000946
An electron emitted from an atom during the Auger effect, which is a non-radiative process where an inner-shell vacancy is filled by an outer-shell electron, and the excess energy is transferred to another outer-shell electron, causing its ejection. These electrons have characteristic kinetic energies that are independent of the incident radiation energy. Their kinetic energy is specific to the element from which they originate.
