Auger parameter

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000951

A quantity in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy equal to the kinetic energy of a sharp Auger line minus the kinetic energy of the strongest photoelectron line of the same element. Its value depends on the X-ray photon energy, which must therefore be stated. Adding the photon energy gives the modified Auger parameter, the Auger kinetic energy plus the photoelectron binding energy, which is independent of photon energy and sensitive to chemical state.
