Einstein photoelectric equation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003614
A fundamental equation that relates the energy of a photon to the kinetic energy of an emitted electron, or photoelectron. The equation states that the kinetic energy of the photoelectron is equal to the energy of the incident photon minus the work function of the material. This principle forms the basis of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, where binding energies are determined from measured kinetic energies.
