Differential spectrum
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001073
An NMR logging method for identifying fluids that subtracts the T2 distribution acquired with a short polarization time from one acquired with a long polarization time. Water, with a short T1, is fully polarized in both and cancels, while light oil and gas, with long T1 values, recover only at the long wait time and remain in the difference. The remaining signal is read as the hydrocarbon contribution.
