Enhanced diffusion

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001305

A technique in nuclear magnetic resonance logging that uses an unusually long echo spacing to amplify the diffusion contribution to T2 decay. Fluids with different diffusion coefficients, such as gas, oil and water, then have their T2 values displaced by different amounts, so comparing a long-spacing measurement with a short-spacing one separates them. It is applied to direct hydrocarbon typing, and it was introduced for gradient NMR tools in the late 1990s.
