Relaxation time
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003098
The characteristic time constant for a physical system to return to equilibrium after a disturbance. In nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging, it describes the rate at which hydrogen nuclei in pore fluids realign their magnetic moments after being perturbed by a radiofrequency pulse. Different relaxation times (T1 and T2) provide information about pore size distribution and fluid types.
