Relaxed-filtrate oil mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003099
An oil-base mud deliberately formulated with a higher high-temperature, high-pressure filtrate than a conventional low-filtrate oil mud, by cutting back on colloidal filtration-control additives such as asphaltic and organophilic-clay materials. The relaxed filtrate lowers plastic viscosity and reduces chip hold-down at the bit, which raises penetration rate. A conventional low-filtrate oil mud keeps HTHP filtrate to a few millilitres.
