Filtrate slump
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001409
The gravity-driven downward movement of drilling mud filtrate within a permeable formation after it has entered from the wellbore. This creates an asymmetric invasion profile where the filtrate extends further down-dip from the well than up-dip. The effect is most pronounced in high-permeability zones and can complicate the interpretation of resistivity logs, which are designed assuming a radially symmetrical invasion front.
