Relaxation time
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008516
The characteristic time scale over which a system returns to equilibrium after being perturbed. In atmospheric science, it describes how quickly a meteorological variable, such as temperature or wind speed, adjusts to a new forcing or disturbance. For example, the radiative relaxation time of the stratosphere can be several weeks.
