Radiative forcing

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008310

The change in the net downward radiative flux at the tropopause due to an external perturbation in the climate system, such as changes in greenhouse gas concentrations or aerosols. It quantifies the initial imbalance in the Earth's energy budget before any climate feedbacks occur. Radiative forcing is typically expressed in watts per square meter (W m⁻²).
