Radiative heating

The process by which a surface or atmospheric layer gains heat by absorbing electromagnetic radiation, primarily from the sun or from warmer surrounding areas. This absorption leads to an increase in temperature. It is a fundamental mechanism driving atmospheric circulation and the global energy balance.
