Diurnal heating
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005079
The process of temperature increase that occurs over a 24-hour period, primarily during the day, as the Earth's surface absorbs solar radiation. This heating warms the ground, which then transfers heat to the overlying atmosphere through conduction, convection, and longwave radiation. Diurnal heating drives many atmospheric processes, including the development of convective clouds and sea breezes.
