  1. Relating to or occurring during the daytime, or exhibiting a cycle that repeats approximately every 24 hours. Many atmospheric phenomena, such as temperature, humidity, and wind patterns, display a diurnal variation driven by the Earth's rotation and daily solar heating. The diurnal temperature range is the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures over a 24-hour period.

  2. Daily; related to actions which are completed in the course of a calendar day, and which typically recur every calendar day (e.g., diurnal temperature rises during the day, and diurnal falls at night).
