Valley wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009942
A local wind system that develops in mountainous regions due to differential heating and cooling between the valley floor and the surrounding slopes. During the day, air on the sunlit slopes heats up and rises, drawing air up the valley (anabatic wind). At night, the slopes cool, and denser air flows down the valley (katabatic wind).
