Sàrca

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010737

A cold, katabatic wind that blows on Lake Garda in northern Italy. This wind originates in the Sarca valley to the north of the lake and descends onto the water surface, typically during the morning hours. The sàrca is a result of nocturnal cooling over the Alpine valley, creating a flow of dense, cool air that moves down the valley slopes toward the warmer lake.
